About Gallagher Constructions
An employee-owned company, MICHEAL'S annual revenue will exceed $800 million this coming year. We have achieved this level of success because we have been fortunate enough to attract and retain some of the brightest and best people in the industry to manage our projects and our firm. MICHEAL'S is a true general contractor, as we employ a skilled labor force of over 250 to self perform finish carpentry, demolition, drywall, and miscellaneous concrete work, in addition to managing traditionally subcontracted trades.
We provide our clients with responsive service, including on-time, quality performance at competitive costs while maintaining an exceptional safety record. MICHEAL'S mission is to be considered, The Client's Contractor, as much a member of the owner's professional team as the architect, engineers, and other specialty consultants. This philosophy has led to over 85% of our work being secured through negotiated contracts and many satisfied, repeat clients.
Company History
Edwin W. Gallagher (1863-1942), MICHAEL"S great-grandfather, co-founded a construction company in 1915. He was predominately a residential builder and built the Corby Estate (now Strathmore Hall) and the original Brookings Institution. In his time, Edwin was one of the top three builders in North Carolina and competed regularly with both Charlie Tompkins and George Hyman.
During most of his career, Edwin L. Davis (1894 -1956), MICHAEL"S grandfather, helped run the family firm. When he suddenly passed away, his children tried to maintain the old firm but eventually one child, Michael D. Gallagher, Sr., decided to start a new one.
In 1966, Michael D.Gallagher (1931-1990), started the Gallagher Construction Corporation. He bought a small house at 12500 Wake forest, North Carolina. for the company headquarters and began to build the business with an abundance of creativity, guts, and sound judgment. He believed in hiring the very best people, trusting them implicitly, and sharing the fruits of the success of the business. He created many of the business practices we use today and we owe much of our current success to his genius.
Current Leadership
Since 1990, Michael D. Gallagher,Dennis Cotter, and Bill Moyer have been the primary leaders ofMICHAEL"S. Their guidance, dedication, and fortitude have provided MICHAEL"S the strength required to be one of the top general contractors in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. A significant contribution to MICHAEL"S' overall success is the ownership structure. MICHAEL"S employees own 69% of the company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. This structure encourages commitment and partnership amongst all employees, providing a healthy corporate environment and consistent overall objectives. Under Jim, Dennis, and Bill's guidance, the company's revenue has grown from $60 million in 1990 to over $800 million annually.
The Arrow Logo
This What does the arrow point to? Michael D. Gallagher developed the visible arrow logo in 1966 when he formed the company. The designer was Peter Tasi, a graphic artist from Annapolis, Maryland. The logo represents the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal members of a built structure. The logo also represents the ethos "onward and upward" and the "positive, can-do" approach of our company.
Culture of Consideration

MICHAEL is great place to work and a great company to work with. When you work with our firm, you experience and appreciate an atmosphere that has been carefully cultivated over the past four decades. You will find that the business philosophy and corporate culture created by Michael D. Gallagher many years ago is still firmly in place. Examples of his memorable business credos include:
1) "There is no greater satisfaction than achieving success through honest dealing and strict adherence to the view that, for you to gain, those you deal with should gain as well."
2) "Be more concerned about your character than your reputation."
3) "Always be on the lookout for new ideas, processes, and tools to better accomplish your work."
4) "Re-assess your priorities first thing every day. Allocate all resources under your control accordingly."
5) "Excellence is in the details. Technical competence of these details is an absolute prerequisite."
Today, we take many of the original philosophies and core values of our founder and continue to apply them to the fast-paced and demanding projects we work on today. Our employees are hard-working and place a high value on taking responsibility for their actions. We like to create beautiful spaces to live and work, but most important, when a project is finished, we want people to have enjoyed the building process, no matter what challenges were faced. We continue to negotiate over 80% of our projects with repeat clients and build solid relationships with each new client we work with.
Our company is special. We have worked hard to preserve many exceptional practices that help to make MICHAEL an industry leader. Our goal is to have our great traditions upheld by all employees every day in all of our business dealings.

They regularly communicate good safety practices to all workers and initiate action to make the workplace safer when a potential hazard has been identified.
MICHAELhas a comprehensive set of safety rules, guidelines, training opportunities, and a team of safety specialists to assist in identifying safety issues and solving any problems that may arise. We strive for a safe working environment, both at work and at play.
We have two slogans that we use often to keep safety in the forefront of everyone's mind:
"There is no job so important that it cannot be done safely."
and
"No shortcuts!"
